Question: What is Thermo-molding?
Answer: Thermo-Molding, Thermo-Forming or Vacuum Molding is a manufacturing process where a sheet of plastic is heated to a pliable temperature and formed to a specific shape in a mold and then trimmed to create the desired product. The sheet of plastic is heated in a large oven to a high enough temperature that permits it to be stretched into or onto a mold, a vacuum is used to draw the plastic tight to the mold and then allowed to cool.
Question: Are there other types of molding?
Answer: Yes, there other types commonly known as injection molding, blow molding, and rotational molding. However, here at Custom Molding Services, we use the thermos molding process.
Question: Does Custom Molding Services believe in recycling?
Answer: Absolutely. At Custom Molding Services we believe that this earth is here for us to use, not abuse. We want to leave a beautiful planet for generations to come. We recycle every bit of scrap that we can to do our part.
Question: What types of thermos-molding molds are there?
Answer: There actually serveral, the most common are:
- Wood Molds- Wooden molds are usually the first stage in the thermos-molding project. They are usually somewhat inexpensive and allow the customer/manufacturer to make simple changes to their design. Once the final wood mold is completed it is sent to a mold maker where a ceramic composite or an aluminum mold is cast. Here at Custom Molding Services, we use the aluminum version.
- Cast aluminum molds- these are cast out of aluminum at a foundry. They normally have temperature control lines running through them. The temperature control lines aid in regulating the heat of the plastic while being processed.
- Machined Aluminum Molds-these these are like the above molds but are made of a solid block of aluminum using a CNC machine.
Question: What types of material do you use?
Answer: We only produce products made from plastic or plastic variations. We do however make other accessories or parts to accompany the plastic part.
Question: How durable is the material you use?
Answer: The plastic material that we use is extremely durable. Many of the products we manufacture are used in the industrial, oil field and rail car industries and are extremely durable.
Question: What is the largest piece of material you can work with.
Answer: We have more than one machine, our largest machine can handle raw material up to 10ft x 12ft.
